Eva Hesse Drawings

Around the middle of this year within my practices I came across an Artist called Eva Hesse and her work immediately connected to me and I really wanted to look up her work which then inspired me to create a lot of my end of year pieces which I'm the most proud of.

While I was looking at a lot of different works of Eva Hesse I came across Eva Hesse's drawings which really made me stand back because they reminded me of my own style of drawing when I'm drawing down my ideas. This to me is very interesting because Hesse died sadly in 1970 and she was drawing her idea well before I was born, but we both ended up doing similar type of drawings.

Eva Hesse's drawings from her Journal
What interests and what I have found out about Eva Hesse, which is similar to me is they way the drawing a very simple line drawings which that a lot of detail to them because most of the detail is within the artist head and just like Hesse, the piece creates itself through the process so that when the detail comes.

When I look at the bottom left of Hesse's drawings I can see a similar drawing, but a completely different piece to my bottom drawn piece.

What I found really interesting about this drawing is the fact that it really looks like the final piece Repetition nineteen III 1968 that Hesse made from this drawing.

Hesse was able to create the right blends and everything within her final piece that was within the drawing.

When I was looking through a lot of Eva Hesse's pieces I really loved her Untitled (Rope) 1969-70 through the natural freeness and movement in her piece and my top drawing from my final piece was based on her piece. I really feel that look at Hesse's work has really opened myself again to be more creative and made new and unique pieces.

I just love the beauty of something so simple as a drawing for an idea, every time I look at any artist work I'm always thinking of what their drawings looked like because I love the little story or that burst of inspiration has been put on a page. I know when I get an idea and draw it down it make me feel so happy because I know I'm then going to go on a Journey of the process to make that idea into a real piece of art and I just want to see is that the same for the artist that I look at, but look at and reading about Eva Hesse I know it was similar for her.

V&A

A few weeks ago I went past the V&A and I thought I might as well just go in and have a look about the place to see all the really interesting historical items within the V&A.

While looking through the V&A I really had my eye colt by the more natural, older looking piece which was around the V&A, through the way I feel looking at this piece you can see the hidden human which made them back when they were new.

Photo About the door

Photo I took of the door

One of the examples of what I was saying this this 11-12 century door that is slowly falling apart and which has natural decay, which to me adds more to the door, then if it was new. Especially at the bottom of the door there are crooks and there are parts of the door where the wood is completely gone. To me, I feel looking at a piece like this which are fulling part add more to the piece than looking at something so new because the decay shows the age and the life in a way that the object when through to get to that point where the different natural tones are fading or darker in different natural tones are fading or darker in different places.

Like you can see here, there are there are these little holes that have naturally been made by bugs and the time that it has gone through. This whole door is like a chapter of the time it has gone through which to me makes it really interesting.

Also the metal on the door, add another interesting element to the door through the way you can see the marking when the people was making it. Also the metal has stained the wood which makes the darker parts of the door.

Photo of the objects

Other historical object(s) that I found really interesting was these metal objects because I really love the little handmade marking which have been add to them and the faces that the maker, made on these piece which would of had more meaning back when it was made. That a very interesting point, the way there was once meaning to these piece but other time they have just become historical objects and the meanings have change through the way they are important to keep save so less damage happens through the way they are a part of history.

I also really like the contact between the piece and the wall behind through the way the pieces are really old and they are placed on the new wall which makes them stand out ever more.

Another object that I found interesting was these stairs, through the way they are held up with modern metal and they are very old wood which has been placed in a way to make it look like the stair were naturally there.

Similarly to the door these stair has the natural warn out textures which add these small little detail that I always notice and love through the way they show what time naturally does to an object.

Overall, I feel that going into the V&A was very interesting through the way it showed me again the lovely naturally decaying objects that I always love seeing.

Our Mixed Media Moods

Image of the Title
From July 2016 to this month 2017 I have been a part of this online group of different amateur and YouTube artist where the host DeeDee Catron and Jenn Engle make up a mood board of 6 images based around a theme they make up and then they create videos with their creations and on the Facebook group you can see the mood board and create your own piece.

I really love these mood boards and the group because I really love the different designs of the mood board that DeeDee and Jenn come up with through the way that they can be interpreted in many different ways.

As you can see with all these mood boards they have very different styles to them making it a challenge every month to create something a different piece. Also, by watching the YouTube videos from both DeeDee and Jenn and sometime a guest host can also really inspire me to create pieces and the price can vary, they can go from a book page, to cards and two canvases. As well, the mood boards can be more challenging than the other, for example the March mood board for me was challenging through the way I'm not a really big fan of yellow so to use it was quite hard back overall I do feel that I was able to create a great piece.

My piece for the March Mood Board
I have a separate blog which I have set by set on how I have created all my Mood Board piece and another piece at http://aliceinarterland.blogspot.co.uk/.

Going on the Facebook group is really interesting to look through in the way there are so many different interpretations which to me makes this Mood Board challenge even more special to me through the way it can make people create so many different pieces.

These are two piece of work from the March mood board and as you can see the very different ways people have taken the mood board and create it them on.

Overall, I feel that this mood board and Facebook are a very interesting an important way to connect many different people which love making art and that's what I love in a way with technology through online groups because I can get to see these amazing pieces by people from many different countries and there an be some language differences but that doesn't even matter because the art that we make speaks for us. These mood boards have brought me out of my comfort zone and have opened my eyes to many different ways to create my home style work and I hope to be taking part in this for a long time.
